Zanaflex - Tizanidine - Dosage - Side Effects - Drug Interactions
Zanaflex (tizanidine) drug information, dosage, side effects, drug interactions, and warnings. Zanaflex, generic drug name tizanidine, is a muscle relaxant (muscle relaxer) used to treat muscle spasms, cramping and increased muscle tone due to spasticity. Zanaflex is also used to treat back pain, headaches, and (tic douloureux) trigeminal neuralgia.
Drug Monograph: Zanaflex / Tizanidine
Tizanidine significantly reduces muscle tone and frequency of spasms in patients with spasticity due to spinal cord injury; but does not reduce muscle strength. Tizanidine produces more drowsiness and sedation than baclofen, but tizanidine is not associated with the muscle weakness which may occur with baclofen therapy. Tizanidine was approved by the FDA on December 3, 1996.
