What is Vasculitis?

Definition: Vasculitis is the inflammation of blood vessels which can be associated with various rheumatic diseases and syndromes.

Some of the conditions that involve primary vasculitis include:

  • Behçet's disease (Behcet's disease)
  • Giant Cell Arteritis (Temporal Arteritis)
  • Henoch-Schonlein Purpura
  • Kawasaki Disease
  • Polyarteritis Nodosa
  • Takayasu Arteritis
  • Wegeners Granulomatosis
  • Pronunciation: vask-u-light-us
    Also Known As: vasculitide
    Common Misspellings: vasculitus
    Examples:
    The patient has arthritis and a secondary condition known as vasculitis.
