Question: How is fibromyalgia viewed by the medical community?

Answer: In the last decade, perhaps no disease has polarized the medical community more than fibromyalgia. There are many practitioners who still consider this disease a psychiatric condition, while others have come to believe that this is vexing organic disease, with multiple faces. Because of medical ambivalence, many patients find it hard to find appropriate treatment. A very balanced article was published (11/30/00) in the New Yorker magazine.
