(More "Misconceptions About Arthritis") Chronic arthritis can drastically alter a person's life. The disease can act like a thief and rob the person of their old self, imposing limitations and disability. Body image and self-esteem deteriorate along with the progression of the disease. In spite of dismal probabilities and possibilities, we must remind ourselves to focus on what we have rather than what we have lost. We must maintain a positive perspective on life and ignite the sense of humor that still resides within. It is easy to fall prey to depression and negativity. It is imperative though to continue to approach life wearing a smile and savoring each moment that brings us laughter. During those moments of laughter, we do not consciously feel our pain.
