Arthritis is associated with pain and swelling of the joints. Arthritis is not a single disease. There are over 100 types of arthritis and related conditions. Men, women, children and people of all racial and ethnic groups are affected. Arthritis is not just an older person’s disease. According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), nearly two-thirds of people with arthritis are younger than age 65.

Some types of arthritis are more common than others. The CDC reports, the most common are osteoarthritis, gout, rheumatoid arthritis, and fibromyalgia.
