Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome: Often Underdiagnosed or Misdiagnosed
Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, considered an arthritis-related condition, is a group of inheritable connective tissue diseases. Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome is a little known but potentially debilitating or even fatal condition. Underdiagnosed or misdiagnosed are words used to describe Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. Though about 1 in 5,000 people have Ehlers-Danlos, it is often not diagnosed until a medical emergency occurs. Generally, the primary symptoms associated with Ehlers-Danlos include:
- arthritis and musculoskeletal pain
- joint hypermobility
- skin extensibility (stretchiness)
- tissue fragility
