Monday May 22, 2006
Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, considered an arthritis-related condition, is a group of inheritable connective tissue diseases. Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome is a little known but potentially debilitating or even fatal condition.

Underdiagnosed or misdiagnosed are words used to describe Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. Though about 1 in 5,000 people have Ehlers-Danlos, it is often not diagnosed until a medical emergency occurs. Generally, the primary symptoms associated with Ehlers-Danlos include:

  • arthritis and musculoskeletal pain
  • joint hypermobility
  • skin extensibility (stretchiness)
  • tissue fragility

Six types of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome exist and were classified based on their primary clinical manifestations. May is the first annual Ehlers-Danlos Awareness Month. Learn more Fast Facts About Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.
