Not everyone realizes how much arthritis impacts their family, especially their spouse. It can truly be difficult to look beyond the pain and physical limitations you experience and see the effect on others. I had conversations recently with two people who desperately want to have committed, loving relationships (not with each other). Their perspective on the role of chronic illness in marriage really made me think.

As I was thinking about the qualities that make an ideal partner or spouse for someone with a chronic disease, I decided to put together this list of 10 traits or factors that would enhance compatibility between someone with arthritis and their partner.
