Psoriatic Arthritis Treatment Guidelines Presented at 2008 ACR Meeting
Psoriatic arthritis treatment is complicated. Since there is a wide array of symptoms and various levels of severity associated with psoriatic arthritis, treatment guidelines have been needed. The Group for Research and Assessment of Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis (GRAPPA) has issued the first-ever international guidelines for psoriatic arthritis treatment. The guidelines were presented at the 2008 annual scientific meeting of the American College of Rheumatology.
The treatment guidelines were based on literature review and consensus between rheumatologists and dermatologists. The recommendations focus on the main symptoms of psoriatic arthritis and clinical findings associated with the disease including:
- skin problems
- nail abnormalities
- peripheral arthritis (feet and hands)
- axial disease
- dactylitis (sausage-shaped digit)
- enthesitis
