Nabilone - Marijuana-Based Drug Reduces Fibromyalgia Pain

By February 16, 2008

Nabilone, a synthetic form of marijuana, significantly reduced pain and anxiety in fibromyalgia patients, according to a first-of-its-kind study published in the Journal of Pain. There were 40 study participants selected for the nabilone trial which was conducted by researchers at the University of Manitoba Rehabilitation Hospital. After being divided into two groups - a nabilone group and a placebo group - the participants were treated for 4 weeks. This was the first randomized, controlled study to evaluate nabilone for pain reduction and quality of life improvement in fibromyalgia patients.

Nabilone, brand name Cesamet, is one of two oral marijuana-based compounds, known as cannabinoids, used to treat nausea following chemotherapy. Nabilone is also approved for the treatment of anorexia and weight loss in patients with AIDS. In the study that assessed nabilone for fibromyalgia, while significant pain relief and functional improvement was noted, none of the nabilone group experienced complete relief of fibromyalgia symptoms. Nabilone was well-tolerated by the study group. Researchers suggest it may be useful as a treatment option for some fibromyalgia patients.

Iam thanking the medical-research for think passed the end of there nose.
I was involved in a major accident leaving me with 24/7 chronic pain, meds are oxycotine, morhine. They give you a morning sickness feeling where you don’t want to get out of bed.

I have been using medical marijuana to help with stomach issues and chronic pain…I have found that they THC needs to be at a high level to relieve chronic pain to an extreme lower level…Also energy level increases to where you what to get out of bed and look forward to the day…

the main reason i use cannabis is for spondylosis this causes head and eye pains, servere pain in my neck, sholder and arm mobility problems along with pain and swelling along my back bone to just below my sholder blades. I take a cocktail of pain killers wich ive been on for 5 years plus now and thay are slowly killing me. I have found over the last year or so some cannabis strains take away most of the pain, all of the swelling along my spine and i have full mobility of my sholder and armů.this is something that no perscription drug has been able to do.
I also have copd and intermittant claudication both conditions benifit from me taking cannabis because if im not hung over with pain killing medication i am a lot more active wich helps both conditions emensly.
