Having Arthritis Complicates Sexuality and Intimacy

Having arthritis can impact a person's sexuality and intimacy. There are a variety of problems and difficulties which may arise due to the physical and psychological changes caused by arthritis. Nearly 1 in 3 rheumatoid arthritis patients reported their disease caused sexual problems, according to study results presented at the 2006 annual meeting of EULAR (The European League Against Rheumatism).

The pain, fatigue, physical limitations and other problems caused by arthritis can make having a healthy sex life a challenge. Much can be done though to ease the difficulties and bring the joy back into sex. Arthritis may interfere with intimacy but complications can be overcome.
