Fibromyalgia: 10 Things You Should Know

Saturday April 28, 2007
Fibromyalgia syndrome is an arthritis-related condition characterized by widespread or generalized muscular pain and tenderness. Fibromyalgia does not cause inflammation or damage to the joints, muscles, or other tissues. Therefore, it is not a disease of the joints but is arthritis-related. Fibromyalgia is considered a syndrome because it is a set of signs and symptoms occurring together.

Fibromyalgia affects between 2 and 4 percent of the population. Women are the predominantly affected gender. Fibromyalgia symptoms are often confused with symptoms typically linked to another condition. Overlapping symptoms with other rheumatic conditions can make fibromyalgia difficult to diagnosis. If you have been diagnosed or have signs pointing to fibromyalgia, from early symptoms to disease management, there are 10 Things You Should Know About Fibromyalgia.
