Guaifenesin: Effective Treatment for Fibromyalgia?

Guaifenesin is an expectorant and mucus thinner used to help the symptoms of cough. Guaifenesin is the active ingredient found in many cough medicines including Humibid, Mucinex, Robitussin, and others. According to Gold Standard, generic guaifenesin is available as prescription or non-prescription capsules, extended-release capsules, tablets, extended-release tablets, and oral liquids.

Some doctors and researchers have reported that guaifenesin may help relieve symptoms of fibromyalgia. We asked rheumatologist Scott J. Zashin, M.D. to explain, Is Guaifenesin an Effective Treatment for Fibromyalgia?
