Osteoporosis Frequency Lower in Men Than Women With Rheumatoid Arthritis
Osteoporosis, which means "porous bone", is a disease characterized by progressive bone thinning. It is not just a disease of women as many people think. Men can develop osteoporosis too. There is an increased risk of osteoporosis in patients with rheumatoid arthritis as well as other rheumatic conditions.

Study results reported in the August 2006 issue of the Journal of Rheumatology indicate that the frequency of osteoporosis is considerably lower in male patients with rheumatoid arthritis than female patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Though the reason is not yet fully understood, researchers speculate that there may be a difference in the factors which lead to bone loss for men and women.
