The Facts of Remicade
Sunday July 9, 2006
Remicade (infliximab) is a biologic response modifier, specifically a monoclonal antibody which binds to and blocks tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha). Tumor necrosis factor (TNF) alpha is a cytokine involved in the inflammatory process. Researchers believe that excess TNF-alpha exists in patients with inflammatory forms of arthritis, including rheumatoid arthritis.
Biologic response modifiers which bind TNF-alpha (currently there are three - Enbrel, Remicade, and Humira) help reduce inflammation and prevent joint damage. Learn more about The Facts of Remicade.
