Modest Exercise May Help Prevent Disability From Arthritis
Wednesday January 4, 2006
According to new study results, modest levels of exercise can help prevent disability from arthritis. The study involved 3,554 participants, between ages 53-63, who had osteoarthritis. The study participants were categorized into three groups based on their level of leisure acitivity: inactive, insufficiently active, and those getting the recommended level of exercise for adults (at least 30 minutes of moderate activity per day or less than 20 minutes of vigorous exercise). Compared with the inactive group, insufficient and recommended activity equally protected against functional disability.
