Taxol - Paclitaxel - Dosage - Side Effects - Drug Interactions - Warnings

Thursday November 3, 2005
Taxol (paclitaxell) drug information, dosage, side effects, drug interactions, and warnings. Taxol, generic drug name paclitaxel injection, is a chemotherapy drug made from the bark and needles of the Pacific yew tree. Taxol, approved and used to treat many types of cancers, may also help fight scleroderma, according to new research.

Taxol (Paclitaxel) May Help Fight Scleroderma

Researchers from Duke University Medical Center have published important new findings regarding scleroderma. Experiments in mice reveal that Taxol (paclitaxel), an anti-cancer drug, may prevent the skin thickening and small blood vessel destruction that characterizes scleroderma. Researchers also report that "a patient's own immune system may actually interfere with body's inherent ability to repair damage, and in particular, damage to small arteries." Encouraged by the new findings, researchers are making plans for a clinical trial. Read the news release New Clues into Causes of Scleroderma.
