Cherry Juice Concentrate Cures Gout and More? FDA Warns Companies About Unproven Claims
Wednesday October 26, 2005
The Food and Drug Administration has issued warning letters to 29
companies that manufacture, market, or distribute products made from
cherries or other fruits. The companies were warned about making unproven claims on their web sites and product labels, and violating the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. The companies cited market dried fruit, fruit juice, and juice concentrate for treating or preventing gout, arthritis, fibromyalgia, lupus, and other ailments.
According to research eating bing cherries may help people who suffer from the pain of gout or other forms of arthritic inflammation. The FDA is cracking down on marketing tactics fueled by unproven claims.

I have never been a believer of the cherry juice concentrate, but let me tell you, I tried it and I am so impressed that my friends are tired of hearing how well I have come along. I had Gout on the bottom of my foot where the second toe is, swollen, inflamed and so painful to walk that I could cry. I also have had two knee surgeries in the last 8 yrs. and very painful still going up and down steps, bending, etc. the Arthritis was taking over. Low and behold within six days the pain subsided about 40 per cent. Two weeks yesterday (6-5-06) and the Gout is gone, I now can even stomp my foot on the ground. Knee is about 80 per cent better. I even danced around my house, which for 8 yrs. I had to give that up. I can even walk down steps now without holding on for dear life, or walk down backwards holding on. I have NEVER been so excited about how I feel now with the gout and arthritis. I could not stand up over a toilet for yrs without terrible pain, shaky legs and knees popping and cracking all over the place. For the first time this past week end I did, came out and told my friends what I accomplished, like a kid in a candy store. You don’t realize the little things mean so much when you finally can do them again. I will never never be without my daily cherry juice, not to mention it tastes great. Please anyone who has this problem, trust me, IT WORKS!!!!
Thank you Cherry Juice Concentrate
Sharon
Sorry about the mistyped words, on foot and knee. Perhaps you can correct for me. thanks
Good for you! The FDA are a bunch of controling fools in bed with the drug companies. They DO NOT want people to find cures from the goodness of God’s bounty…whatever would they do? What a loss of $$ for them all in this “a pill for all ills” society!
I tried the cherry juice concentrate per my naturopath for a stomach upset/bloating/constipation from all the raw, sprouted sunflower seeds I eat. Amazing results! I never felt better. Don’t tell the government, though!
The FDA needs to just disappear. They DO NOT want anyone to get better. They are drug pushers and are totally and completely ignorant. Personally, most of whatever they say is NOT good for you…I will try because they are liars! And thanks to you Sharon and D for your truth and I’m soooo glad you are both feeling better!!! Best of luck to you and all the others out there!! Take care of yourselves the way YOU believe works….NOT what the FDA or anyone else says! God Bless!
Cherry juice ‘may help’ – but that’s true of everything. My Doctor warned about wasting money on ’snake oil’ treatments that ‘might not’ deliver all they promised! Well I have gout and it has been unresponsive to some VERY expensive drug therapies. I’ve been prescribed allopurinol, sulphinpyrazone, colchicine and indomethacin. All these have appeared to work for short periods before the gout has flared up again big time – and that’s alongside ‘lifestyle’ improvements incuding cutting down on meat and alcohol and watching the purine intake. My Doctor admits he is clueless – and the specialist consultant is no better!
In short I don’t think that cherry juice is any better or worse than ‘proper’ treatments. If it works for you then great – if not try something else. At least Cherry Juice can’t do you any harm (unlike some of the FDA approved drugs) and at least it contains lots of antioxidants and vitamins!
The FDA wants to help control the billions made in the pharmaceutical industry. Cherry Juice/Cherry consumption works to prevent/relieve symptoms of gout. I’m a long time sufferer of gout and have successfully controlled it when I’ve been disciplined enough to consume my ration of cherries. When I don’t, attack recovery is 1-2 days, instead of 1-2 weeks. I’ve had some attacks subside in as little as 2 hours with a can of bing cherries and a quart of water. Prescription medications didn’t work near as well.
i started taking cherry juice today , my sis has been taking it for 4 months someone told her of it
she has had many bad migrane headsaches an now she hasnt had a bad headache in 4 months
so i trust her an hope it works for me
its seems to be good so far but time will tell me,
hell its lots cheaper then pain pills an all pills
An old friend told me a few years ago that her husband had gout and that she gave him 20 cherries a day. Canned supposedly worked well for him. Now 10 years later, my husband has gout and I give him 20 fresh cherrys daily. When fresh cherries are out of season, I give him a handful of dried cherries. By the way, canned cherries do not really work as well as fresh or cherry juice.

I drink cherry juice too – I prefer XXXX – XXXX (not from concentrate) – helps with all my aches and pains and actually TASTES good.
I just started drinking cherry juice – i have rheumatoid arthritis. i have had a flare-up for about 5 weeks now. ouch – hard to walk and move my hands especially in the am. i just started the cherry juice yesterday and i feel a little better – i’m not sure if it’s in my mind – but i will keep you posted. hope this works…
You know when the FDA pays so much attention to something like this, it MUST be very helpful. They are afraid of something so simple breaking the monopoly on the drug cartel. I have know for a long time that most, if not all, disease states can be reversed without synthetic and toxic medications. I think people are waking up. Maybe someday people who are “diagnosed” with “incurable” disease can actually stay in this country and have the freedom to seek and receive the kind of treatment they want, without putting physicians in jeopardy of losing their license and/or going to jail for even recommending a natural, inexpensive non-toxic treatment. I mean, people have already been doing some of these things for thousands of years. Is it really about the safety of people or protection of big pharma?
I have had a little soreness for the last couple months in my right foot. Last night; it got so sore after work that all I wanted to do was lay down and watch tv so my wife and I went out to Price Choppers and found Sour Cherries in a Jar Sweetened). I ate a small dish of them when I got home. This am; my foot feels great.
A friend of mine told me he takes 4 or 5 sour cherries whenever an attack occurs. He said he feels relief almost instantly and then goes to work as a supervisor at a casino.
I am 51 years old and exercise daily including racquetball 3x a week. During and after racquetball tournaments I used to suffer from muscle cramps and struggled with plantar faciiatis and achilles tendon problems. Last year my Chiropractor recommended Tart Cherry Juice. I am totally convinced that my daily consumption of Tart Cherry Juice has significantly reduced my muscle/joint pain and cramping. So convinced I now buy it on line by the case.
The Cherry juice remedy works. I have gout and ran out of medicine so I tried concentrated cherry juice it took away the gout in under 24 hours. I did not believe it till I tried it.
where do you get concentrate cherry juice?
In the west coast, you can find it from grocery stores like NewLeaf, Rainbow Grocery or Wholefoods, check your local granola, grocery type market. They should run $15 to $20 for 8 oz concentrates.
With that said, I also buy it by the case on line. There are a couple of places that I get my organic cherry concentrate from regularly, stocking up when a sale’s on. I also get the cherry butter as well, it’s great on toast and bagels.

After months of niggling pain in my big toe joint, I had my first gout attack last week. After about four days and lack of sleep from the pain I skeptically tried some cherry juice figuring I had nothing to lose. The only medication I had been taking prior to the juice was Ibuprofen. Two hours after my first drink my pain had 90% gone and I truly was amazed, stunned at the results – a decent nights sleep at last!! Over the next two to three days I only had minimum pain coming and going before the pain had completely gone. For me, this has been the quickest results from natural “medication” I have ever experienced.
What dosage is best to take. Do I take it daily, what brand of cherrie juice is best? I have been taking 2 tbl spoons in 4 oz of water. Should I increase or decrease my dosage, and should I take it more than once a day. Thanks to all; Ray
Can anyone tell me where I can buy Cherry Juice? I’ve heard so many good things about it, but can’t seem to fine it.
@Deb
I found concentrated black cherry juice at GNC. I’ve only been taking it for two days. The pain I get from RA comes in waves over hours or days, so I can’t really tell yet if its helping. My gout I control by simply not eating the foods that trigger attacks.
I have been disabled by arthritis for 15 years, and every pill my doctors has failed to work.
I am interested in trying this, but, since I ‘live’ on a fixed income, am not sure I can afford.
Where is the best, and most economical, place to get online?
I first bought concentrated cherry juice on E-bay, to try it. We found it the other day at Henry’s Mkt. It was about $4.94 for an 8 oz. bottle…which is much less than the E-bay purchase. I’d think that most health food stores would carry it. Be sure to get the concentrate, not the “from concentrate”. I wish good health to us all!
I had 22K of knee surgery for unknown knee pains. It turned out that when my doctor cut into my knee it was filled with gout! After 3 months of recovery my OTHER knee flared up out of the blue with the same gout type “just kill me pain”. My neighbor told my to eat cherries and see? The next day those cherrys wiped out 95% of the pain. Something that all the pills (vicodan) couldnt do to either of my knees.
Cherrys are a real treatment for gout! I buy 16 oz cherry juice for $6 on the web.
If you want to Cure gout cut out rich foods steaks beer etc…
I just found 100% Montmorency Red Tart Cherry concentrate at my local Wal-mart, near the refrigerated orange juice, etc. Was $8.88 for 13 oz.
I was a gout sufferer big time. I started drinking 1/2 a glass a day almost 2 years ago after a very serious bout. Within 7 days the pain subsided. After 2 weeks it was gone. I have not had a gout attack since. I was on the ususal drugs and slowly weaned myself off of them. This works for me so shove it FDA.
I am convinced that the bing cherries that I have been eating have drastically helped my right hip. I have moderate to severe arthritis in my right hip. I could no longer run, and walking had become very difficult for me. I had developed a bad limp and I was in constant pain. After eating cherries for about three weeks, I have noticed a big difference. I still have the arthritis, but it is much less severe. I even ran a few days ago without a lot of pain. I am hoping that this improvement will continue. When cherries are out of season, I am going to drink the concentrated cherry juice.
The FDA would have a different take on it if they were rolling around their bed in pain. Cherries work.
I can understand that there is a need for there to be some proof in order for companies to make health benefit claims.. but can someone please tell me how it is legal for Enzyte to run disgusting adds and it is illegal for very legitimate claims about cherry juice and oat bran to be illegal. It’s not ok unless you are scamming people, unbelievable.
Cherry juice really does work… I have been having problems with my knees hurting for about 3 years.. I would just deal with the pain or take some kind of pain reliever. I started drinking about a 2 oz of cherry juice every day and noticed the difference right away…It’s not available everwhere…I do know that Trader Joe’s carry it.
believe it or not, the FDA is an organization designed to protect the money interests of big business, NOT to protect your health, as proven by MSG, cigarettes, aspartame, all things endorsed by the FDA until they were no longer profitable as “healthy” products. please, please do your own research and get both sides of the story before you let big brother scare you into taking meds you don’t need.
it does work, and the FDA doesnt want us to do anything that helps naturally because they are in kahoots with all the drug companies. so its up to you try the juice or eat the pills, the juice doesn’t have the side effects that the pills do and it costs less and tastes great
As someone who has worked for more than 10 years in the pharmaceutical industry, it saddens me how little people understand the role of the FDA. Briefly, the FDA’s role is to ensure that medications are as safe as possible and that all health benefits are based on scientifically designed, clinical trials. Most natural remedies that make amazing health claims (such as cherry juice for gout)have never been tested in clinical trials which is why the FDA issued the warning. One last point, if a drug company could make millions of dollars from cherry juice for the treatment of gout it would!
For those having trouble finding cherry juice, another option is dried cherry powder in capsule form.
I discovered my two years of suffering with knee swelling and pain was gout, after it suddenly worsened after eating a bunch of nitrite-free hot dogs.
I started with 3 cherry capsules 3 times a day, and noticed a difference right away, but really saw major imporovement at the 6-week mark.
It’s been nearly two months now, and I also noticed my toenails are clearing, they looked yellow and thick, but the bottom halves are now normal, where they’ve grown out.
Of course, I am also eating less meat and no sausages or other organ-containing meats– avoiding mushrooms and beans as well.
Celery Seed in capsule form is also supposed to work, if you don’t respond to cherries you might give it a try.
From personal experience, a six ounce glass of cherry juice plus 2 750Mg.of Black Cherry Extract when taken before bedtime, to alleviate pain and swelling at the onset of a gout attack has the same efect as taking Cataflam 50 medication. I have suffered from gout for 15 years and have only recently started to use cherry juice and black cherry extract on a very regular basis.

I have always believed that home grown fruits and veggies are the way to stay healthy. If you grow it all the more better for you. Medicine is not the safest route for you. Do your homework and do not believe everything you hear. No guarantee they the meds prescribed will help you. They will more than likely hurt you first. Your condition has worsened because now you have to deal with the side effects from these meds. Don’t kid yourselves the drug companies don’t want you getting any better or they would be bankrupt. Our governments are not any better they don’t want drugs to make people well. They are encouraging the sickness industry not wellness.
Cherries offer the highest amount of antioxidants around and they are easy to take along, fresh, or dried. Offer a simple solution for many picky eaters they can be used in place of raisins. Eat as many as you can we all know our own limitations. I strongly agree with other posts that the drugs companies and the governments are together so that people don’t get well and they are encouraging more corruption and illness in the world. They also want to control the limitations on our farmers who grow our foods. Do you know what you are eating? Is it grown here or on another content? Is it really fresh or chemically engineered. No wonder they are so many people with stomach problems and allergies. Do your homework and don’t be so trusting with your health. Susan
Please check out Daily Grommet.com. We are showing a video about a product called Michelle’s Miracle Cherry Supplement and the benefits of cherries.
I have trouble getting to sleep and after reading that black cherries are one of the only foods that can produce melatonin in the body, I starting drinking two tablespoon of concentrate in a glass a water an hour before bedtime. It works for me.

After taking tart cherry juice (with much success) for gout, I tried it when I started to have pain in my palm. As I had had “trigger finger” about nine months ago I recognized the pain as an indication of the same problem. The cure for my first trigger finger was an injection of cortisene after weeks of pain. The cherry juice did the trick in about seven to ten days, with very little pain in that time. Never even missed a day of golf!
I take 2-3 tablespoons daily straight form the bottle.
To #31 above: If you have worked for more than 10 years in the pharmaceutical industry, you know that the FDA is trying to keep people from using anything non-pharmaceutical because they are in cahoots with eh pharmaceutical companies. Sure, the “ROLE” of the FDA is SUPPOSED to be to ensure that medications are as safe as possible and that all health benefits are based on scientifically designed, clinical trials. BUT, many natural remedies that make amazing health claims have never been tested in clinical trials because no drug company can get a patent on a plant! The only way a drug company could make millions of dollars from the idea of cherry juice for the treatment of gout would be to come up with a CHEMICAL version of the cherry juice which tyhey could patent. If you doubt my statement, think of Sudafed, which is based on a plant substance known as ephedrine or Ma Huang. FDA-approved drugs kill people too, so why not try something as benign as cherry juice to help with gout. Seems elementary to me, but then the drug companies would lose my business for that condition.
I know that cherries work for my achy shoulder. I CAN NOT move it without pain unless I take my cherry capsules. You can get them online (you can get the juice concentrate too) from a Traverse Bay Farms in the Traverse Bay area. I live in this area and am familiar with the FDA complaints against the cherry companies. There may not be a lot of clinical research (what farmer can afford them?) but what harm can this fruit do when you’re supposed to be getting more fruit in our diet anyway?
I have plantar faseitis in my heal does anyone think cherry juice will help it is so painful I can hardly walk
To #31. The FDA is not interested in our health. If so, pharmaceutical companies would not exist.
After my husband’s recent surgery and dealing with doctors, who are pimps for the pharm companies and seeing every possible test ($) given a chemo port offered even before the surgery and biopsy. MD’s do basically nothing anymore. Everything is referred to a specialist. Of course, more cost to our health insurance.
I suggest that EVERYONE watch Michael Moore’s movie SICKO. They can sell something in Cuba for 50 cents that has an astronomical cost here in the states.
After watching so many commercials by the pharmaceutical companies and seeing the “side effects”
I will keep the disease.
God gave us everything we need on this earth.
PRAYER WORKS!
