Bisphosphonates and Jaw Osteonecrosis: Possible Serious Side Effect

An article in the October issue of the Journal of Endodontics suggests that patients who take bisphosphonates (i.e., Fosamax (alendronate), Boniva (ibandronate), Actonel (risedronate), Aredia (pamidronate), and others) as part of treatment for conditions such as cancer, or bone conditions such as osteoporosis and Paget's disease of bone, may be at risk for developing a serious side effect - osteonecrosis of the jaw.
