Monthly Medicare Premium to Go Up 13.2 Percent in 2006
Saturday September 17, 2005
Seniors and disabled persons on Medicare face another hike in their Medicare premium in 2006. The fee for Medicare Part B will go up to $88.50 per month, ($10.30 per month increase from 2005). The 13.2 percent increase for 2006 was preceded by a 17.4 percent increase in 2005, and 13.5 percent increase in 2004. Most seniors and disabled persons have the premium deducted directly from their Social Security checks. The American Medical Association defended the Medicare premium earlier this year but others feel the government is trying to take the sting out by focusing on the Medicare prescription drug plan which will start January 1, 2006.
