Canada Plans To Ban Bulk Prescription Drug Exports To U.S.
Thursday June 30, 2005
The Canadian government has announced plans to ban bulk exports of prescription drugs to the U.S. The ban would not prohibit individual Americans from buying Canadian drugs by crossing the border or buying online. According to a MedPage Today report, the Canadian Health Minister said the proposed ban is to ensure Canada has an adequate supply of drugs for its own citizens. The proposed ban may have been provoked by pending U.S. legislation that would legalize the bulk import of prescription drugs from Canada. The ban would only be in effect when necessary, not on a continuous basis. It is possible that Canada may also more strictly regulate the use of its Internet phamacies.
