Hyaluronic Acid Treatments for Osteoarthritis of the Knee

Intra-articular hyaluronic acid (viscosupplementation) is a U.S. Food and Drug Administration–approved treatment for osteoarthritis of the knee, but its long-term efficacy is controversial. Study shows intra-articular hyaluronic acid has a small effect when compared with a placebo. Read more in the abstract from the December 17, 2003 issue of JAMA.
