Fifth disease, also called slapped cheek disease or slapped cheek syndrome, is a viral illness caused by human parvovirus B19, in adults and teens, it can cause infectious arthritis. Fifth disease symptoms include a cheek rash that can spread to the arms and legs. Many adults show antibodies indicating exposure to the virus, suggesting that many infections go unnoticed.
