FluMist, the nasal spray influenza vaccine, is a live attenuated vaccine; therefore it is contraindicated in immunosuppressed patients. Immunosuppressed patients should be strongly encouraged to receive vaccination against influenza using the standard injectable inactivated flu vaccines, according to the American College of Rheumatology.
