Enbrel: Enhanced Method of Preparation and Injection
Thursday October 16, 2003
An exceptionally fine, short PrecisionGlide needle is now available for people to inject the TNF blocker drug Enbrel, generic name etanercept. A new vial adapter has been designed to make mixing and withdrawing Enbrel more convenient. If you use Enbrel, a new Resource Kit became available in September 2003.

I have had to change to the pre-filled syringes of Enbrel 50mg lately but am finding it very uncomfortable and awkward to administer. I was on the vial kit for 2 years previously with the PrecisionGlide needle and never once had a problem. This ‘new’ needle is of very poor quality and is extremely blunt. My rheumatologist said that nearly 80% of his patients are unhappy with this new packaging. Wyeth are refusing to revert to the older & more effective kit, possibly, according to some sources as a cost saving measure. The sure-click pen looks ideal. I wish I could avail of it but it doesn’t look like it will be available in Ireland at all now.
Has anyone else had this experience with the new kit? It is most frustrating.
